Fwd: Students for Justice in Palestine holds 4th National Conference

Students for Justice in Palestine holds 4th National Conference

By Farah Kahn
Boston, MA - Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) held the 4th National Conference at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts from Oct. 24 to Oct. 26. The conference, titled "Beyond Solidarity: Resisting Racism and Colonialism from the U.S. to Palestine" emphasized the importance of solidarity with all liberation struggles, both inside and outside of the U.S. Nearly 500 students gathered to discuss how to free Palestine, stand in solidarity with the African American and anti-police brutality struggles in Ferguson, Missouri and effectively fight all systems of oppression.

One important focus throughout the weekend was the upcoming trial of Rasmea Odeh, the Palestinian American community organizer who is currently a target of the U.S. government's witch hunt against activists and members of the Palestinian solidarity community. Odeh is being criminalized for her solidarity work within the Arab American community. SJP recognizes that, "as Palestinian solidarity activists, we have a duty to support her."

During one packed session at the conference, panelists discussed Rasmea Odeh's case and ways SJP chapters can lend support. SJP leaders called for students to attend her trial in Detroit starting on Nov. 4 and to organize solidarity rallies on campuses across the country. Responding to the call, the University of Florida's SJP chapter is coordinating with student activists at Florida International University, the University of Central Florida, Florida Atlantic University, the University of South Florida and other campuses in the South and nationwide.

As Amanda Nelson of University of Florida's SJP summed up, "To stand with Rasmea is to stand with hardworking Americans who were not born in this country but have worked to establish their lives here. Most of all, to stand with Rasmea is to condemn the torture and human rights abuses committed by Israel."

CHOOSING THE "LESSER EVIL" AGAIN?

My short answer to a post that promotes the "democratic" practice of electoral voting.

No. Again and again the corrupt political system repeats that Vote is an "opportunity". Yes, indeed is an opportunity for profits, corruption, abuse, lobbies buying politicians.
This time just Say NO. Turn your back to the same old lie.

If you DO NOT VOTE, this means freedom from the circus they call "democracy".

Think about this:  You will always choose the wrong candidate, because all of them are bad. Why should you believe in the mythology of the "lesser evil"?
This time say NO. Say NO to the banks, the lobbies, the politicians, the National Security Agency, the military-industrial complex. DO NOT VOTE.

Capitalism in Crisis Amid Slow Growth and Growing Inequality - SPIEGEL ONLINE

Capitalism in Crisis Amid Slow Growth and Growing Inequality - SPIEGEL ONLINE

"It's no wonder, then, that people can no longer get much out of the system. According to polls by the Allensbach Institute, only one in five Germans believes economic conditions in Germany are "fair." Almost 90 percent feel that the gap between rich and poor is "getting wider and wider."

In this sense, the crisis of capitalism has turned into a crisis of democracy. Many feel that their countries are no longer being governed by parliaments and legislatures, but by bank lobbyists, which apply the logic of suicide bombers to secure their privileges: Either they are rescued or they drag the entire sector to its death."

Organized Crime against Pope Francis

Pope Francis 'is mafia target after campaigning against corruption' | World news | The Guardian

Pope Francis's crusade against corruption has made him a target for Italy's all-powerful mafia clans, a leading anti-mob prosecutor has warned.
Nicola Gratteri, who has battled Calabria's shadowy 'Ndrangheta mafia, said on Wednesday that Francis's attempt to bring transparency to the Vatican was making the white collar mobsters who do business with corrupt prelates "nervous and agitated".
He told the Italian daily Il Fatto Quotidiano: "Pope Francis is dismantling centres of economic power in the Vatican.
"If the bosses could trip him up they wouldn't hesitate. I don't know if organised criminals are in a position to do something, but they are certainly thinking about it. They could be dangerous."

Richard Dolan Interview On Crop Circles & UFOs 2014 | The Victory Report® Metals, Markets, Madness

Richard Dolan, the UFO mythologist who invented new conspiracies like the "alternative secret civilization" , talks here about crop circles.

Of course since Richard Dolan makes a living selling fantasies, he denies human origin to these crop circles.

However, let's read something more rational  about these "misterious" designs.

Union of Progressive Jews boycotts Jewish festival

Union of Progressive Jews boycotts Jewish festival

“In no way do we endorse Israel as an occupying and colonising state”, the UPJB notes. The union “adheres to the international call for boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) aimed, as in the past vis-a-vis the South African apartheid regime, to exert peaceful pressure on Israel to force it to comply with international law. This does not prevent us from regularly organising, as we have always done, public events with Israeli artists, intellectuals and activists who interest us, for example because they criticise the government's policies. Boycott applies not to groups and individuals with Israeli citizenship, but to the occupation policy of the Israeli government and all it entails”.

Truth and Fiction in Elie Wiesel’s “Night”

Truth and Fiction in Elie Wiesel’s “Night” » CounterPunch: Tells the Facts, Names the Names
Though Wiesel offers himself as a paragon of moral virtue, the truth is somewhat seamier. As detailed in this myth-shattering piece by Alexander Cockburn from the February 2006 print edition of CounterPunch, Wiesel assiduously campaigned for the Nobel Prize and has for decades tried to pass off his short book “Night” as a true account–a “testimony” in his words– of his experiences at Auschwitz, even though key scenes in the book have been exposed as fiction.

America's Wealthiest Are Just Too Damn Rich to Have a Functioning Society | Alternet

"America’s wealthiest 400 now hold a combined net worth of $2.3 trillion. That places the average Forbes 400 fortune at $5.7 billion, an all-time record high.
The richest of the 400 hold far more than that average. Take Larry Ellison, who just stepped down as the CEO of Oracle business software and holds the No. 3 spot. His net worth: $50 billion.
What does Ellison do with all those billions? He collects residences, for starters, with 15 or so homes scattered all around the world. Ellison likes yachts, too. He currently has two extremely big ones, each over half as long as a football field."

Imperialist Hubris." It was May 23, 2012, and President Obama was giving a graduation speech at the Air Force Academy when he told the assembled cadets that they should "never bet against the United States of America... [because] the United States has been, and will always be, the one indispensable nation in world affairs."  On that basis, he suggested, the twenty-first century, like the twentieth, would be an American one.  Then, on October 23, 2012, in the final presidential debate with Mitt Romney, he reiterated the point, saying: "America remains the one indispensable nation, and the world needs a strong America, and it is stronger now than when I came into office."

Obama’s War and the Limits of Reason by Michael Holtzman -- Antiwar.com

"In recent weeks, Obama has "reluctantly," for the 7th time since taking office, begun bombing a predominantly Muslim country (Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Libya, Iraq, and now Syria), testing, once again, the "limits of reason." This begs the question: How far beyond such limits is our political-military elite willing to reach to initiate militarism in our name?
If our leaders were to use their ability to reason when they evaluate whether military intervention in Iraq and Syria is the best course of action to contain the militant extremist group ISIS, they might come to a different conclusion."

'It is the manner in which the force-feeding process is carried out that is primarily at issue in Dhiab’s case, including the forced cell extractions and the “five-point restraint chair” in which the head and limbs are tied down during the feeding.
Reprieve, a British-based human rights organization, filed a court challenge against Dhiab’s treatment with some of the legal skirmishing around whether the public will be allowed to see video of Dhiab being dragged from his cell and force-fed once or twice a day, a total of 1,300 times, according to his lawyer. In June, 16 news organizations intervened in Dhiab v Obama seeking the videos of Dhiab’s treatment.'

Ahdut position paper about the Palestinian struggle

Ahdut position paper about the Palestinian struggle - Anarkismo

"We do not share the illusion of some sections of the Palestinian and Israeli toiling masses that in the present sorry situation the ‘two-state solution’ must be accepted. Partition of Palestine into two states has been promoted for about a hundred years by world powers including Britain, France, the US and the USSR. This is part of their general meddling in the Middle East, which has condemned it to an impasse, to despotic regimes, to ethnic and religious hostility and warfare, stymieing the economic and political development craved by the region’s inhabitants. Establishing a Palestinian state, whether it will be allocated 15% or 25% of the territory of British-mandate Palestine, will not resolve the fundamental problems of the country, and will certainly not ‘terminate the conflict’: at best it will be a compromise settlement between the Israeli capitalist elite and the collaborator regime of the Palestinian Authority; local agents will acquire a franchise for directly oppressing and exploiting the Palestinian population for their own benefit and for the benefit of foreign interests. Why Do Americans Hate Beheadings But Love Drone Killings? | Coleen Rowley

There are at least four main reasons that explain why Americans care far more about the beheadings (thus far) of two Americans and one U.K citizen, than they care -- here's the polling -- about the thousands of foreign victims of US drone bombing. Here's how people are likely being manipulated into believing that more US bombing is the answer to such terroristic killings even when almost all military experts have admitted that it won't work and "there's no military solution":Read More

"As Israel violates the conditions of the current cease-fire, and Palestine adheres to its part of the bargain, Prime Murder Benjamin Netanyahu continues to proclaim that he will not negotiate with Palestine due to that government’s recent unification. The Palestinian Authority and Hamas, after several years of operating independently, have settled their major differences. Israel will not negotiate, it says, because Hamas’ charter calls for the destruction of Israel. The irony of this is perhaps lost on members of the corrupt U.S. governance body, generally known as Congress, the president and the judiciary."READ MORE
